Description

This is a cottage dating from around the middle of the 19th century, part of a terrace of buildings. It is constructed from local shale rubble with granite dressings, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring gable ends and red clay ridge tiles. Red brick gable end stacks are also present. The original layout included two main front rooms and a central entrance passage; a service room was located in a shallow wing at the rear. Later alterations have seen the removal of the partition on the right-hand side of the passage, with a staircase installed at the rear of the right-hand room. The partition separating the left-hand room from the one behind has also been removed. The front of the cottage is almost symmetrical with three windows, and a blind window in the centre of the first floor. It has small 20th-century 16-pane sash windows with granite sills and lintels, and a 20th-century central flush-panel door with a granite lintel above. Internally, exposed softwood ceiling joists are visible.
