Description

Fern Cottage is a mid-19th century cottage located in a row of houses in Harberton. It is constructed from local slate rubble, featuring a red brick window surround. The roof is made of slurried slate with gable ends that abut the adjoining houses, and it has crested ridge tiles. The cottage has brick gable end stacks, with the right-hand stack being rendered. The layout appears to consist of two front rooms and a central entrance hall, which likely contains the stairs, along with small rear service rooms. The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window range, although the doorway is slightly to the right. The original mid-19th century two-panel door has a cambered brick arch above it. The windows are original 12-pane sashes set in openings with red brick jambs, segmental arches, and slate cills. The interior has not been inspected.
