Description
The Stratton Garden Hotel is a house that is currently functioning as a hotel. The main part of the building dates from the early 19th century, while a block from the 18th century is attached to the south. The exterior is whitewashed and plastered, with the 18th-century section featuring slate-hung walls on the first floor made of large slates. The roofs are covered in slate and painted with bitumen, with gabled ends on the main range and a hipped roof on the 18th-century block. There are rendered brick chimneys at the gable ends of the main range. The building has two storeys and a facade with three windows on the left and one on the right, with the main range slightly projecting forward from the 18th-century block. The main range is symmetrical, featuring a central four-panel front door with a rectangular fanlight, all sheltered by a slated gabled canopy adorned with bargeboarding. There are two 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor and three on the first floor, with the rightmost window lacking horns. The 18th-century block also has a similar ground floor window. Inside, there is an early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters, which may indicate a remodelling of an earlier house. The hotel forms a cohesive group with the nearby Little Cothill Guesthouse.
