Description
The War Memorial is a structure commemorating the men of Stratton who lost their lives in the First World War, with an additional inscription honoring those who died in the Second World War. It features an early 16th century monolith shape, complemented by early 20th century steps, a plinth, and a superstructure with gabled ends. The memorial is made of granite and includes an early 16th century moulded granite pier that has four hollows and four shafts, along with a moulded plinth and a carved capital. This pier supports a solid granite gabled structure that bears the inscription. The pier stands on a square plinth from the early 20th century, which is raised on three steps. A granite stone with the Second World War inscription rests against the square plinth. The early 16th century pier matches the section of the piers in the south arcade of the church and is likely re-used from the church.
