Description
This is a barn located to the east of East Berriow, dating from the late 16th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends, presenting an overall rectangular plan. The original arrangement and purpose of the barn are uncertain. The front elevation shows a straight joint, but there is no corresponding joint on the rear, and a central stone rubble cross wall seems to have been added later.
The exterior consists of two storeys, with window and door openings that are asymmetrically placed on the front elevation. The ground floor openings have timber lintels, and there is an external stone rubble stair on the right side. The rear elevation includes several ventilation slits that are deeply splayed on the interior.
Inside, there is a fine quality corbelled fireplace on the first floor to the left, featuring granite corbels and a lintel, along with a well-finished pointed relieving arch above. No other domestic features were visible during the inspection in 1988. The roof structure dates from the 18th and 19th centuries.
