Description

This outbuilding, located about 10 metres east of Poldrissick Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and is the remains of a formerly larger structure that has undergone many alterations. It is constructed from rubble with stone dressings and features a corrugated iron roof. The building is a small rectangular two-storey structure with two blocked doorways at one end, which may have served as entrances to the lower part of a larger building. This end could have been the higher section of a three-room plan house or possibly the chamber above the lower end. One end has a blocked two-centred chamfered arched stone doorway on the left and a blocked four-centred arched doorway on the right. The opposite end features an external stair leading to a first-floor entrance. At the front, there is a 19th-century doorway with a brick segmental head. Inside, the wall above the blocked doorways displays substantial remains of wall paintings, including figures and geometric patterns with strapwork, which appear to be secular in nature and possibly date from the late 16th or early 17th century.
