Description
This building is an outbuilding located about 60 metres southeast of Lower Tregole Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century at the lower end. The structure is made of cob above rubble stone and is partly plastered. It has a corrugated iron roof with gable ends, which was formerly thatched. There is a front lateral stone stack, and the right gable end features a cob stack with offsets and a stone shaft that has been partly rebuilt in brick.
The building has a three-room and through passage plan, with the remains of a stair adjacent to the front lateral stack and an early 19th-century stair at the lower end. It is two storeys high and has a long, asymmetrical front with two windows. At the higher end of the front, there is a 20th-century stable entrance, a 20th-century door to the left of the lateral stack, and another 20th-century entrance to the right of the stack. The ground floor features a two-light timber window that may be original, while the first floor has two 20th-century casements.
Inside, there is a large fireplace with a chamfered fireplace beam that has run-out stops, located at the lateral stack. The former hall contains chamfered cross and axial beams, and there are pegged trusses. The early 19th-century stair features stick balusters.
