Description
Farmhouse. Built in the mid-18th century, with later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of stone rubble, rendered and lined out, with the rear in painted rubble. It has a slate roof with gable ends, crested ridge tiles, and gable end stacks with rendered shafts. Originally comprising two rooms, one larger to the right and one smaller to the left, each with a gable end stack, a central entrance leads to a stair hall. There are two rear wings under a two-span hipped roof, each containing a single room: an unheated dairy to the left and a kitchen to the right, also heated by a stack. A central rear wash-house is attached, with a small, single-storey addition to the rear left.
The front of the farmhouse has two storeys and a symmetrical five-window range, with mullion and transom casement windows of the 19th century. The first floor has a four-pane sash window in the second window from each side. A central trellis porch with a hipped slate roof and a half-glazed door is present. An external stack is on the left side, alongside a 20th-century addition. The right side features an external stack to the front range and another to the rear, with a curved oven at its base. The rear has a two-storey wing to the left with a two-light casement on the first floor, and a door to the right. The wing to the right has a three-light casement at first floor. The wash-house has a brick stack, with a stable door giving access to the kitchen.
The interior features a 19th-century studded door to the rear kitchen entrance. The dairy has a slate floor and slate shelves, with central hooks in the ceiling. The front entrance hall is wide, with a straight stair featuring stick balusters and columnar newels. A winder stair is located on the inner side of the kitchen. The group value reflects the building's architectural merit and historic significance.
