Description

Landrake House is a vicarage, now a house, dating from the early to mid 18th century, with significant remodelling in the mid 19th century and later 20th-century alterations. The main structure is of slatestone rubble, with the front rendered and partly painted. It has a hipped slate roof and brick and rubble stacks to the rear of the front rooms.

The house was originally planned with a double depth; the main rooms are on the front left and right, each heated by a lateral stack. A kitchen is located to the rear left, with its fireplace backing onto the fireplace in the front left room. In the mid 19th century, the rear wall was partially removed to create a stair hall, and the rear right room, likely originally a service room, was remodelled as a parlour, with its fireplace backing onto the front right fireplace.

The symmetrical front facade presents a 5-window range. The windows are mostly 12-pane sashes, largely replacements from the 20th Century. A swept string course sits above the segmental heads of the ground floor windows. A central half-glazed door has a contemporary roof light. A 16-pane sash window is visible to the rear of the right side, and a 16-pane sash within a gabled dormer on the left side. The rear elevation is in painted rubble, with a 20th-century door to the right, a single ventilation light, and a 6-pane light to the left. A half-glazed 20th-century door and a 2-light casement window are also present at the rear. The rear range appears to be of single build.

Internally, the room to the front left features an 18th-century 4-panelled door, with a remaining cupboard and panelled shutters. The front right room has had the partition wall to the entrance hall removed, and retains window shutters. The stair hall contains an open-well staircase with a wreathed handrail and stick balusters. The parlour on the rear right has a 19th-century marble chimney piece, a plain cornice, and window shutters. A passage runs through the rear range, connecting front to rear, with a service stair. There's a small pantry and scullery, and the kitchen has a slate floor. At the first floor, the three front rooms have 18th-century 2-panelled doors.
