Description

Manhay Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse constructed with granite rubble walls and granite moorstone dressings, topped with grouted scantle slate roofs. It features a dressed granite stack over the original gable ends and cast-iron ogee-section gutters. The building has a double depth plan, likely consisting of two similarly sized rooms at the front, flanking an entrance hall that leads to a stair hall, with shallower service rooms at the rear. In the early 19th century, a one-room plan cottage was added to the right side, along with a small service wing on the left, both of which have later 19th-century extensions at the back. The exterior is two storeys high with an overall four-window south front and a central doorway. There is a glazed porch from the early 20th century featuring some coloured glass, along with a 20th-century door and windows in the original openings. The right side has a lower one-window front cottage with its doorway on the right, which includes an original six-panel door (partly sheathed) and late 19th-century horned sashes. The service wing on the left has a blind front. The interior has not been inspected.
