Description
Receven Old Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse constructed from granite moorstone rubble, featuring some granite dressings. It has a steep corrugated iron roof with a dressed granite stack over the right-hand gable end. The original layout consisted of a two-room plan, with a parlour on the left and a slightly larger kitchen on the right, likely with a lobby entrance and stair between them. In the 19th century, service rooms were added in an outshut at the rear, and there is a small later lean-to on the right. The left-hand gable end was rebuilt in the 20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, with a two-window south-south-east front and a doorway to the left of the middle, featuring an old ledged door. The ground floor has 20th-century windows, while the windows above are boarded over. A reused possible millstone serves as a quoin on the right. The interior has not been inspected but is said to contain a large granite fireplace at the right-hand end and possibly has old floors and roof structure.
