Description

The Fountain Inn is a public house built around the early 19th century. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and features scantle slate roofs that slope lower at the rear over the original section. There are brick chimneys on both the left and right gable ends.

The building has a cranked plan. The original part is a double-depth house that was originally two rooms wide. An early 19th-century wing, consisting of one room, was added at right angles to the front of the left-hand end, and another wing of similar age was built at right angles to this first wing.

The exterior is two storeys high and was originally nearly symmetrical with a two-window front and a centrally located doorway. The doorway has been moved to a former window opening on the right, while the original doorway has been converted into a window. The current door is from the 20th century. Most of the windows are 6-pane horned sashes from the late 19th or 20th century, except for an original 12-pane hornless sash window located on the first floor of the right-hand wing, dating from the mid-19th century. The rear of the building features a blocked doorway, a blocked stair window to the right of the doorway, and a small first-floor window towards the left. The interior has not been inspected.
