Description

The Godolphin Arms Public House is a public house dating from the early 19th century. It features dressed granite and elvan front brought to course, with granite sills, voussoirs, and lintels, while the rest of the building is made of painted rubble. The roof is steep and covered with scantle slate, sloping lower at the rear, and has brick chimneys over the gable ends. The building has a double depth plan, with a wider kitchen and living room on the left and a parlour on the right. There is a flanking cross passage leading to a central stair, with shallower rear service rooms on either side. To the right of the parlour is a gable-ended service wing that projects slightly to the right. In the angle between the main part and this wing is a small single-storey link building that is tapered on plan, narrower, and curved at the front, with a mounting block in front. The building is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical three-window east entrance front, with a doorway that is central to the windows, which are slightly grouped to the right. The round-headed doorway features the original doorframe with a spoked fanlight. The windows are later four-pane horned sashes set in the original openings. The interior has not been inspected.
