Description
This is a headstone commemorating Mary Deacon, located 2 meters north of the west tower of the Church of St Ildierna in Lansallos. It dates from 1778 and honors Mary, the daughter of Richard and Mary Chapman and the wife of Joseph Deacon. The headstone is made of slate and features rounded corners. It is inscribed with an angel's head in a roundel, a finger pointing to an hourglass, and a figure that possibly represents Cupid blowing arrows towards a heart. The inscription is in lower case lettering with serifs and includes a verse that reads: "My friends so Dear Lament not. For me in Vain I was cut of as God did pleas'd He cut me of all in my Prime And left two Babbes here behind Pray my Dear Friends of them take care God will reward you never fear."
