Description
This is a headstone dedicated to Mary Barre, located 8 meters south of the southeast corner of the south aisle of the Church of St Ildierna. It dates from 1779 and commemorates Mary, the wife of John Barre. The headstone is made of slate and features a round top. It is inscribed with the phrase 'MEMENTO MORI' above an angel's head, with two doves depicted below. Additionally, there is an hourglass and a figure blowing arrows at a heart. The inscription is well engraved in lower case lettering with serifs, and there are two verses beneath the first verse, which reads: 'Why do we mourn departing Friends Or Make at Death's Alarms? Tis but the voice that Jesus sends To call us to his Arms.'
