Description
This is a headstone located about 4 meters east of the Church of St Giles, dating from the late 18th century. It was engraved by D. Sandercock from North Tamerton and is made of slate. The headstone features a segmental head that commemorates Mary Metherel, who died in 1795, along with her infant son. At the top, there is a clock set within a carved aedicule, flanked by roundels that depict a kneeling figure and an angel. The lettering is well-executed, and the verse below the inscription includes the lines: "The child being gone the Mother could not stay/But humbly wishd for Death and slept away."
