Description

ZENNOR SW 43 NE 4/244 Kerrowe Cottage, adjoining - outbuildings and front garden walls II Small house, adjoining outbuildings and front garden walls. Circa early C18, extended in the C19. Painted granite rubble. Scantle slate roof with dressed granite stacks over the original gable end (now party walls with later farm buildings which are used as part of the house). Plan: overall L-shaped plan. 2 room plan house with wider kitchen left and parlour right with lobby entrance between. Adjoining at left is a shippon with granary over; adjoining at right is a cartshed with integral stable and at right angles in front of the stable is the remains of a shippon. The shippon, granary, cartshed and stables are now part of the house accommodation. Exterior: 2 storeys. Slightly asymmetrical 2 window east front of house with doorway right of middle. Small window openings with first floor openings grouped closer. Left of the house the former outbuilding has doorway, right, and first floor loading doorway, middle, approached by external flight of stone steps. Right of the original house the cartshed has a large doorway. The shippon, far right, is roofless, with its front (facing south) partly fallen. Interior: C19 first floor and roof structure. Original large fireplace in left hand room and reused C18 2-panel door beside the fireplace. A high wall divides the left hand building's courtyard from the garden of the house; at the right hand side of the garden is a wall with 3 pointed arched niches possibly bee-boles. Along the front parallel to the house the wall is lower and has granite monolithic gate piers aligned with the doorway of the house.
