Description
Penvorder is a small house, now serving as a rear wing to a later, larger house. It likely dates from the early 17th century and was significantly extended around the early 20th century. The house is constructed of granite rubble with large dressed granite quoins, and has a rag slate roof with gable ends. A stone rubble end stack, featuring granite strings, is situated on the right-hand side.
Originally, the house comprised two rooms and a through passage, with a slightly larger, heated room on the right and an unheated room to the left. An outshot was added to the rear of the left-hand room, potentially in the 18th century. This outshot was later extended during the 19th and 20th centuries, spanning the passage and the right-hand room. A later farmhouse was incorporated onto the left-hand gable end around the early 20th century.
The front of the house, which presents a nearly symmetrical two-window arrangement, has 20th-century windows replacing earlier openings. A centrally placed entrance features a 20th-century plank door within a 20th-century stone rubble porch. A two-light mullion window is present in the right-hand gable end.
Internally, ground floor partitions have been removed and ceiling beams replaced. The fireplace on the right-hand gable end retains unmoulded granite lintels and jambs.
