Description

Little Beside is a small house dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with large granite quoins and features a rag slate roof with gable ends. The house has a stone rubble end stack with slate and granite strings on the left side. The layout consists of a single room plan with an entrance into a small lobby on the right, a staircase located directly behind the lobby, and a single room on the left heated by the end stack. A small lean-to extension was added to the left gable end in the mid-20th century.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front featuring one window. There is a two-light casement window on the left and a plank door with a slate hood on the right. A single-light casement window is present on the first floor. The left gable end has a 20th-century lean-to outshot, while the rear elevation remains unaltered with a single window.

Inside, there is a 20th-century brick grate, mid to late 19th-century ceiling beams, and an early to mid-19th-century staircase with 19th-century partitioning. In the right gable end, there is a small opening to the exterior with a single-light casement on the interior, which may have served as an earlier form of cold store. The house features an early 19th-century A-frame roof structure with renewed collars. Little Beside is a complete and unaltered single room plan house with well-preserved front and rear elevations and interior. It is located near another house of a similar plan, known as Riverside.
