Description

Riverside is a small house dating from around 1850. It is constructed of granite rubble with a rag slate roof and gable ends. A stone rubble stack is located on the right-hand gable end. The original plan comprises a single room, with a small lobby on the left at the entrance, and a staircase directly behind the lobby. The room is heated by a stack at the end. A small outshot extension was added to the left-hand gable end in the late 19th century, and subsequently extended in the later 20th century. The front elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a part-glazed door to the left and a 19th-century centre-hung two-light casement window to the right. A 20th-century one-light casement window is located on the first floor. A rendered lean-to outshot is on the left-hand gable end. The interior is largely complete, featuring a 19th-century staircase enclosed by timber partitioning. An early 20th-century fireplace with a mantelpiece is also present. Riverside retains a complete and unaltered single-room plan, with unspoilt front and rear elevations and an original interior. It is situated near a similar, slightly earlier house known as Little Beside.
