Description

This is a house dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations from the 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with an asbestos slate roof and a crested ridge tile. The house has a two-room plan, running single-depth, with a rear service wing of one room to the right. A stair was likely inserted in the mid-18th century between the rear wing and the front room on the right. The room to the right has a rear lateral stack for heating.

The house is 1½ storeys high and has three windows. The ground floor features a six-pane sash window, a four-pane sash window which was formerly a doorway, a 20th-century door, and another 20th-century window. The window that was formerly a doorway is an example of the Kingsand/Cawsand type window – a four-pane sash with Gothic margin glazing. Similar examples can be found at Dorset House and Spring Cottage, Heavitree Road. There are three dormers, each with a four-pane sash window.

Inside, the straight staircase has stick balusters, a column newel, and vertical panelling. The front left room features a corner cupboard with shaped shelves. Other 18th-century interior features have been altered in the 20th century. The roof is a 5-bay structure with halved principal rafters crossed at the apex, cambered side-pegged collars and one row of purlins.
