Description
The granary and adjoining cartshed, located approximately 10 meters southwest of Alsia Mill, date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings. The granary features a grouted scantle slate half-hipped roof, while the cartshed has a corrugated iron roof with a gable end on the left.
The building has a rectangular plan, with a two-storey granary on the right and a single-storey open-fronted cartshed on the left. The granary includes an opposing first-floor loading/winnowing doorway and stone steps, which have been remodeled with concrete, leading to the rear doorway. The exterior remains largely unaltered, except for a 20th-century inserted or enlarged window at the first floor of the rear.
The northeast front displays a two-bay open-fronted cartshed on the left, supported by a central granite monolithic pier. The granary features a stable doorway to the left of the middle, a wide wagon doorway with a wooden lintel on the right, and a first-floor loading doorway to the right of the middle. At the left-hand end, there is a small 19th-century window with vertical glazing bars. The doors are ledged, except for a reused four-panel door at the first floor. Inside, the granary retains its old first-floor structure and original roof structures.
