Description

This building is a barn located 15 meters east of Haye Barton, dating from around the 1860s. It serves as a shippon with a threshing floor and a granary above. The structure is made of stone rubble, featuring granite quoins and large granite lintels on the ground floor. Much of the dressed granite used in its construction is likely repurposed from an earlier, demolished house known as Barton. The barn has a slate roof with hipped ends and includes a short projecting wing on the front to the southwest, which is also constructed of stone rubble and has a lower slate roof with a half-hipped end.

The barn is two stories tall with an asymmetrical south-facing front. The ground floor has eight shippon doors and glazed window openings, while the first floor features three pairs of plank doors leading to the threshing floor, with slits between them and a partly blocked glazed opening to the right. In the projecting wing on the left, there is a plank door with stone rubble and granite steps leading up to the loft on the first floor. At the rear, stone rubble and granite steps also lead up to the loft. Originally, a water wheel powered the threshing machinery, but it has since been removed. A reused segmental granite arch can be found on the northwest side. The barn has a 19th-century scissor truss roof with a King-post truss, locally referred to as a king key roof. This barn is included for its group value with Haye Barton.
