Ivy Cottage Windsmere And House Attached To North

Ivy Cottage and the attached house known as Windsmere are a row of three connected houses built in the early to mid-19th century, with few later changes. They are constructed from slatestone rubble with brick details and are partly rendered. The houses have a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, featuring gable end stacks and three axial stacks with brick shafts.

In terms of layout, Windsmere is located on the left, with a central house and Ivy Cottage on the right. Windsmere has a two-room plan with a central entrance, and each room is heated from an end stack. The two houses to the right have a double-depth plan, with a two-span roof covering the front range and the rear service rooms. Each of these houses contains two rooms in the front range, with the outer rooms being larger than the inner ones, and an entrance situated between them.

The exterior is two storeys high and presents a nearly symmetrical front. Windsmere features a central gabled and rendered porch with a 19th-century four-panelled door and a segmental overlight. It has 19th-century 16-pane sash windows at both the ground and first floors to the left and right, with cambered brick arches at the ground floor. The two houses to the right also have central gabled and rendered porches, each with an inner 19th-century six-panelled door featuring a cambered arch. The windows closest to the porches at both floors are 19th-century 12-pane sashes, with the ground floor windows also having cambered brick arches. The left end of Windsmere is rendered and blind, while the right end of Ivy Cottage is also blind, with the rear range rendered and a small single-storey 20th-century addition. The interior has not been inspected.
