Description
The Beehive Inn is a public house and shop with accommodation, dating from the 18th century and refronted in the mid-19th century. The exterior features a render that replaces the original stucco on studwork, with an asbestos slate roof on the left and dry slate on the right. The building has a deep plan and includes rear wings at right angles. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes set within moulded architraves, except for a slightly later 19th-century small-paned canted oriel window with a moulded entablature on the first floor to the left. Number 6, on the right, has late 19th-century shop windows with quadrant end lights, and the original lights are divided by slender mullions with arched caps. The second bay from the left features a door with an overlight, a granite stall-riser, and an original moulded entablature with a fascia. Number 4 has a 20th-century bowed fascia. There is a passage doorway to the right of centre with an overlight featuring margin panes. The far rear wing of Number 6 retains many 18th-century features, including three casement windows with thick glazing bars, and a steep roof that includes a linking roof of the wing bridging the passage, which has one 17th-century crested clay ridge tile. The front wing is constructed of studwork with asbestos slate hanging and has three storeys with three early 19th-century horizontal-sliding sashes, complete with glazing bars, and a larger mid-19th-century twelve-pane hornless sash. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
