Description
The churchyard walls, gate, and gateways surrounding the Church of St Michael in Helston date from the 18th century and are possibly contemporary with the church built in 1763 by Thomas Edwards. Constructed from killas rubble with granite dressings, the walls feature hog-back copings and enclose an irregular rectangular area. The gateway at the southwest corner includes a flight of seven steps flanked by granite benches and has a wrought-iron balustrade on the right with a ramped handrail. The gateways to the northwest and northeast also have steps and side ledges, while the northern gateway features a pair of wrought-iron gates topped with cast-iron finials.
