Description
This is a bank barn located 15 meters to the northeast of East Trenean Farmhouse, dating from around the 1840s. It features stone rubble construction, with the front elevation partly rendered and the rear elevation repaired with concrete block, topped by a rag slate roof with gable ends. The barn has a rectangular plan and two storeys.
The symmetrical front elevation includes two shippon openings on the ground floor, which have replaced plank doors and granite lintels, flanking a central opening with double plank doors and a granite lintel. The first floor has a wide opening for the threshing floor, supported by a timber lintel, and two window openings with dressed arches located below the eaves on either side. There is also a row of pigeon holes beneath the eaves, which is partly blocked on the right-hand side. The rear elevation features a double plank door at first floor level.
Inside, the first floor joists are reinforced with bracing, and the walls are lime plastered. The barn also has an interesting braced queen post truss roof. It is part of a row of farm buildings situated to the north of East Trenean Farmhouse.
