Description

Farmhouse. It likely dates to the 17th century, with extensions from around the mid-18th century, including a rear outshut. The farmhouse is built of rendered stone rubble and cob, with a steeply pitched slate roof with hipped ends. A section of the rear roof is covered with cement-washed scantle slate. There are two rear chimney stacks, one built into the rear outshut using stone rubble and the other with a brick shaft. Originally a two-room plan with a through passage, it features a hall and kitchen on the right and a parlour on the left. Further extension occurred around the mid-18th century, adding a two-story outshut with service rooms creating a double-depth plan. A lean-to extension is on the hipped end to the left, and there may have been a clom oven projection in the front wall of the single-story remodelled extension on the right-hand hipped end. The front of the house is asymmetrical with three windows, the left side set slightly forward. The ground floor has a 20th-century window where a 19th-century window likely stood, with a louvered sill, and a late 19th-century three-light casement to the right. A 20th-century door is in the center, covered by a porch with a hipped slate roof. The first floor windows are not directly above the ground floor ones; two early to mid-19th-century two-light casements flank a later central 19th-century two-light casement. The rear elevation features two 19th-century casements on the first floor. The interior was not accessible during the survey, but the owner recently discovered a large fireplace in the right-hand room and believes that original roof timbers remain.
