Description

Penlee Cottages is a row of eight houses built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of rubble and feature a slate-hung front, topped with a hipped slate roof that has ridge stacks. This terrace consists of eight houses arranged in a double depth plan. The central six houses have three pairs of adjoining front entrances, while the two end houses have entrances on the sides.

The cottages are two storeys high and have a total of eleven windows. On the first floor, all windows are horizontal sliding sashes with twelve panes each, although four have been replaced by casements with glazing bars. The ground floor also has similar sashes, with two sashes for each pair of doors. The end houses have two windows on the right and left, which are now four-pane sashes, and all have 20th-century half-glazed doors. The right end features a door with a glazed panel and two single lights on the first floor, while the left end is hung with asbestos slate.

At the rear, there is a bay that projects forward on the right end, topped with a hipped roof, and it has eight horizontal sashes on the first floor. The ground floor windows at the rear have all been replaced in the 20th century, and there are seven doors with segmental heads. The interior has not been inspected.
