Description
The war memorial located in Victoria Park, Redruth, was built in the 1920s and is made of granite ashlar. It features an octagonal obelisk that is mounted on a tall square pedestal with a chamfered base and diagonal buttresses. Each side of the pedestal has a panel with raised lettering. The west panel reads:
THE TRIBUTE OF
REDRUTH
TO HER
GLORIOUS DEAD
1914-1918
This is followed by applied metal lettering stating:
TO LIVE IN HEARTS
WE LEAVE BEHIND
IS NOT TO DIE
An additional panel set into the chamfered base commemorates those who served in the Second World War, with raised lettering that says:
AND IN
GRATEFUL MEMORY
OF THOSE WHO
GAVE THEIR LIVES
1939-1945
The other sides of the pedestal display the names of the fallen, with 161 names listed for the First World War and 66 for the Second World War.
