Description
Pedn-an-Drea House is a mid-19th century house located in Pedn-an-Drea Place, near Redruth. It is constructed of rendered brick with painted white surfaces, black painted detailing, and a slate roof. The house has a rectangular, double-depth plan and is two storeys high with three bays. It exhibits a symmetrical design, featuring channelled corner pilasters and a first-floor band with moulded decoration. A Doric porch, set on two steps and topped with a balustrade, protects a semi-elliptical-headed doorway with recessed double doors and a fanlight featuring radiating glazing bars. A large four-pane sash window sits above the porch. Two-storey bay windows flank the entrance, possessing panelled pilasters, dentilled cornices, and horned sashes with four-pane glazing. A modillioned eaves cornice runs around the bays, and a large, flat-roofed dormer is centrally positioned on the roof, incorporating coupled four-pane sashes and pilasters. Gable chimneys are present. The rear elevation features twenty-pane sash windows, with a stairwindow partially obscured by a modern addition. An enclosed courtyard is located at the rear, containing a range of outbuildings, which include a privy, laundry, and stores. The interior displays moulded plaster cornices with palmette and anthemion motifs, some original fireplaces, and relocated muntin-and-rail panelling in one room. Historically, the house is believed to have served as the residence of a mine captain.
