Description
Nos. 45 and 45A on Charlestown Road are early 19th-century shop premises, as indicated by their presence on the 1843 tithe map. The building features painted brick with some rubble and a dry Delabole slate hipped roof. It has a rectangular plan and consists of two shops at the front, standing two storeys high with an overall four-window range. The late 19th-century windows are four-pane horned sashes. The original shop fronts are pilastered and transomed, complete with a moulded entablature and fascia. The shop front on the left includes a doorway on its left, which has been fitted with a window, and a two-light shop window. The larger double shop front on the right has six lights and return lights flanking a splayed central doorway with a glazed door. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of an important and little altered group in this former fishing and china clay port.
