Description

This building is a bank barn located approximately 40 metres south-west of Penwarne Barton Farmhouse. It dates from the early 19th century, with extensions added in the mid-19th century. The structure is built of killas and granite rubble, featuring granite dressings and a grouted scantle slate half-hipped roof. The barn has a long rectangular shape, with the original central section likely serving as a granary above shippons or stables. The building was extended at both ends during the early to mid-19th century; the left side probably includes a wagon shed with flanking stables and a hay loft above, while the right side has a deeper plan that may have been a shippon with a fodder store above.

The barn is two storeys tall, with the east north-east front displaying a symmetrical design. The original barn features a dressed granite lintel course above the ground floor openings, contrasting with the coursed killas rubble. There are two central doorways with a wide loading doorway above, as well as additional doorways on the left and right, each with loading doorways above. The left-hand section has a wide central doorway flanked by a small window, along with doorways on either side. The first floor has two glazed windows. The right side of the barn is slightly built forward, featuring a former doorway on the right and a former window (now a doorway) on the left, both with loading doorways above. Some openings have old ledged doors, and the first-floor doorways include glazed overlights. The interior has not been inspected.
