Description

This is an early to mid-18th century barn and adjoining outbuilding situated approximately 20 metres north of Lower Treluswell Farmhouse. The building is constructed from granite rubble with granite and elvan dressings, and has a hipped roof covered in scantle slate, which is grouted. The overall plan is L-shaped, with the long barn built in at least two phases. The original barn section is towards the right and included granaries and fodder lofts above stables, shippons, and waggon houses. A later single-storey range was built at right angles to the front of the barn, on the right side, with a waggon shed facing forward. A horse-engine house is located behind the barn, on the right-hand side. The two-storey barn has a long, unaltered front facade with alternating doorways and windows on the ground floor. This includes two wide waggon doorways, one in the middle and one towards the right. The right-hand waggon doorway has a segmental granite arch with a projecting keystone, while the other has a segmental brick arch. Loading doorways are positioned above the waggon doorways and above a doorway towards the left, with windows above the other two doorways. A corbelled hood with a hipped roof covers the right-hand loading doorway. The left-hand front of the barn features pigeon holes under the eaves. The building retains many original ledged doors and windows, some with wooden shutters. The interior has not been inspected.
