Description

The well at the rear of Penwarne Barton Farmhouse is a structure from the early 19th century, likely a remodelling of an ancient covered spring. It is built into the side of a hill and constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. A segmentally-headed brick arch spans the entrance. Inside, there is a deep tunnel leading into the hill, featuring a low wall at the entrance to help dam the spring water. The tunnel is covered by a brick vault.
