Description
The gate piers, gate, and flanking walls at Penwarne in the parish of Budock date from the early 19th century. They are constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. The wide gateway is flanked by square piers that are connected to concave segmental walls, which lead to square terminal piers. The gate piers are made of dressed granite monoliths topped with pyramidal heads, while the terminal piers feature monolithic shafts and overhanging pyramidal caps. The lower walls between the piers have segmentally-headed granite copings. A 19th-century wrought-iron gate with five rails includes cross bracing and a central name plaque inscribed with "PENWARNE." The hanging stile arches over to its adjoining brace, and the other stile has a scrolled head. There is also an Ordnance Survey bench mark on the left-hand pier.
