Description
The Germoe War Memorial, located near Castle Pencair Fort, is a Grade II listed structure. It is made of granite and features a three-stepped square base constructed from coursed snecked stone, topped with a roughly hewn granite Celtic cross on a plinth. The stone plinth at the base of the cross bears an inscription in lead lettering that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/AND IN REVERED AND HONOURED MEMORY/OF THE BRAVE MEN OF ST GERMOE,/WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING & COUNTRY/1914 - 1918./ERNEST ANDREW./LEONARD LAITY./ERNEST RICHARDS./SAMPSON RICHARDS./LEST WE FORGET." Additionally, a granite stone plaque has been inserted into the top stone step, which includes the inscription: "ALSO IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO/FELL IN THE WAR 1939-1945./ERVIN ANDREWS/STANLEY JOHNS/WILLIAM COURTENY WHITE." The memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the community's loss during the world wars and is noted for its competent design and craftsmanship, as well as its prominent location on the scheduled hillfort.
