Description

This is a well, probably from the 18th century, located on Tresowes Hill in Germoe. It features battered walls made mostly of vertically set granite rubble. The well is cut into the side of the hill, with a cranked-plan chamber that is roofed with granite lintels. In front, there is a walled entrance that also has a cranked plan, with a flight of eight steps leading down to the well doorway. Inside the chamber, there are additional steps that lead down into the water. The well is supplied by a spring from the surrounding hillside. This well is an unaltered 18th-century structure that is unusually deep for its type.
