Description
The brick kiln, located at SW60492991 in Breage, is a Grade II listed structure that is partly in ruins and likely dates from the 18th century. It features granite rubble walls with dressed granite jambstones around the doorway. The kiln has a parabola-domed brick roof that is covered with gravel and lime mortar, and it includes a round flue vent positioned in the middle. The structure has a round plan with an entrance on the south side and slightly battered walls. The left side of the doorway has collapsed, while the right side remains standing at over half its original height. Inside, the walls are lined with brick, and much of the surface is coated with tar. This kiln is a rare example in Cornwall, remaining relatively complete and located in marginal farmland on the eastern slope of Tregonning Hill.
