Description

ST MELLION NEWTON FERRERS SX 36 NW 7/261 Well house 250m to east of Newton Ferrers House II

Well house dedicated to St Mary. Circa C15. Granite and stone rubble. Stone rubble well house built into side of slope to enclosed a field spring. Granite 2-centred arch with outer arch with slight ogee cusp at apex. Water flows through well house beneath the threshold and down to join the stream below. Within the well house is a circular bowl suspended by an iron bracket. The sides of the bowl are carved and incised on the lips are the date 1666 and the initial M.
