Description
The well house, located approximately 250 meters north of the Church of St. Mary, is a structure likely dating from the 16th century. It is built from coursed squared ironstone and has a small square shape. The entrance features a plank door set within a small chamfered doorway that has a round arch head. The roof is steeply pitched and made of stone, while the interior is barrel-vaulted. This well was used to supply water to Canons Ashby House through hollow oak pipes. It is known as the Norwell and is said to have originally supplied the priory, with its construction dating back to 1253.
