Description
Canons Ashby features gates and gatepiers that date back to the early 18th century. They are made of dressed ironstone. The gatepiers have moulded stone plinths and cornices, with plain sides. Each pier supports a stone suit of armour on a square base with panelled sides and splayed feet. The gates are 19th-century iron double-leaf gates topped with spear finials. These gates once provided access to a short formal drive that led through the park to the Green Court and the entrance of Canons Ashby House. The gardens and park at Canons Ashby are also recognized in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Gardens at Grade II.
