CANONS ASHBY Canons Ashby House, gates and gatepiers to Green Court (Formerly listed as Walls to court and garden and gatepiers at Canons Ashby)

GV II*

Gate and gatepiers. Early C18. Ironstone ashlar with limestone dressings. Piers have moulded plinths and cornices, panelled sides and thin moulded obelisks on octagonal feet supported by pairs of stone scrolls at each corner. Original painted oak gates, with barley sugar twist rails, 'Venetian window' arches to each leaf with Tuscan columns and keyblocks joined to shaped top rail. H-hinges. Gates recently restored by National Trust with much new timber. (Canons Ashby gardens and park are included in the H.B.M.C. Register of Gardens at Grade II*)
