Description

The railings, gate, and gatepiers bounding the west side of the Italian Garden at Castle Ashby are attributed to Thomas Warren and likely date from the mid-18th century. These wrought-iron railings separate the Italian Garden from the main avenue leading to Castle Ashby. The railings feature spear finials, while the standards have urn finials. The gatepiers are made of plain limestone ashlar and topped with urn finials on stepped bases. The wrought-iron gate and railings include ornamental crestings and urn finials on the standards. Castle Ashby park and gardens are listed in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens for Northamptonshire at Grade I.
