Description
The Camellia or Round House is a greenhouse built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from dressed limestone, cast iron, and glass, featuring a rectangular shape with an apsed entrance end. The central door is flanked by Tuscan pilasters, and the glazed bays are separated by piers that have similar pilasters. An entablature and blocking cornice adorn the structure, while pineapple finials are positioned on the parapet at the apsidal end and at either end of the roof ridge. Inside, the roof is supported by cast-iron columns. This greenhouse is located in an Italian garden, although it predates the current layout of the garden. Castle Ashby park and gardens are recognized in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens for Northamptonshire at Grade I.
