Description

This beehouse, located in the kitchen garden to the southwest of the main entrance at Castle Ashby, is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features two tiers of six round-headed alcoves designed for bee-skeps, each with keyblocks. The structure has a plinth, pilastered corners, and narrow pilaster strips between the bays, along with a plain frieze and a moulded cornice. It is one of a pair situated symmetrically on either side of the path leading from the main entrance. The gardens and parks of Castle Ashby are recognized in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens for Northamptonshire at Grade I.
