Description
The bee-boles, likely from the 18th century, are located in a walled courtyard 20 meters south of Ash Barton. The courtyard features a lean-to animal shelter in front of the bee-boles, which has a 20th-century corrugated roof supported by timber. The walls are made of rubble, with cob in the upper sections and a pantiled capping. The south-facing wall is built higher than the other walls to accommodate the bee-boles, which are partially hidden by an inserted manger. There is a central door opening flanked by two tiers of ten plastered niches on each side, with slate bases and shouldered heads. Three pairs of bee-boles have been filled in with rubble. These bee-boles are situated to the south of an enclosed house garden and may have originally been part of a more elaborate garden design that has since been lost.
