CANONS ASHBY Canons Ashby House, S Lion gates and gatepiers to garden (Formerly listed as Walls to court and garden and gatepiers at Canons Ashby)

GV II*

Gates and gatepiers. Early C18, gates C19. Ironstone ashlar. Gatepiers have moulded stone plinths, cornices, panelled sides and support demi-lions rampant with protruding tongues holding globes on staves with their two paws. These lions are versions of the Dryden family crest. The lions face each other. To the walls either side of piers, carved console brackets. C19 wrought iron gates with overthrow. (Canons Ashby gardens and park are included in the HBMC Register of Gardens at Grade II*).
