Description
South Lodge with Gate and Gate Piers at Blackadder Mount dates from the later 18th century. It features two rectangular-plan ashlar gatepiers that support a two-leaf wrought- and cast-iron vehicular gate, with pedestrian gates on either side that are similarly designed. The gatepiers have a base course and coping. The south and north elevations of the gatepiers are alike, showcasing an advanced central panel with a round-arched niche. Classical detailing, including swag and shell motifs, is present on the plinth above the coping on the south elevations of each gatepier, with consoles flanking the plinth. Each gatepier is topped with an ashlar smiling couchant lion.
