Description
The Cot is a Grade II listed building, originally two cottages that were converted into one, dating from the 17th century. It features whitewashed rubble lower walls with plastered cob above, although the rear is unplastered. The building has a thatched roof and brick chimney stacks.
The structure is asymmetrical and consists of a long, seven-window range, with the ground sloping down from the northwest to the southeast. The left side (northwest) is a single-storey unit that includes a partly glazed entrance door and a 2-pane 20th-century window to the left. There is also a 4-pane 20th-century casement window beneath a hipped roof in the gable end. The remainder of the cottage is two storeys high, featuring three 3-pane 20th-century windows on the ground floor, with two glazed and partly glazed doors situated between them. On the first floor, there is a 12-pane casement window along with two asymmetrically placed 4-pane horizontal sliding sash windows. The thatched roof has a hipped end on the left (northwest) and is adjacent to the slate roof of Cliffe Cottage on the right. A chimney stack is located on the ridge to the right of the left-hand gable end and to the left of the right-hand side.
